Honoring that first childhood bond

That bond with my first dog Molly meant the world to me. She was always by my side - my protector, my confidant, my playmate. One of my favorite things about working in a shelter is watching a family find their new family member, especially when there are kids involved. My daughter shares the same love of animals and I am so grateful for her tenderness and care with them. As I watch her care for our two senior kitties, I know these are core memories that will be with her for life and the building blocks of empathy.
